welcome

back to the

Own Your Health

Podcast,

I'm Cyndi Lynne

and I can't

wait to help

you step into

your health

power.

I'm continuing

this

little holiday

mini series on

reducing

stress, which is

definitely part

of owning our

health. And this

particular

episode is

really

geeking out on

the planning

part.

Now, if you're

not a big

calendar and

planning

person, you

might

not like this

one so much,

but you'll for

sure like the

last two

episodes. Here

we're going to

drill just a

little bit

deeper.

So when you're

an uber planner,

when you really

like to get

down to the

details and feel

like you've

taken

the chance and

stress out of

a lot of

things, I

welcome

you to pull

that calendar

out.

And we're going

to do a

couple of

things.

One, I want

you to look

at every event

that you're

either

hosting or

attending

and ask

yourself,

what am I

going to wear?

Now,

this may seem

shallow when

we're looking at

planning

for a whole

holiday season,

but I know when

it comes down

to it, when

it's the night

before, when

it's the day of

and you're

staring

at your closet

going, oh my

gosh, what am

I going to

wear now?

Back in the

day when I

was in the

corporate world,

there

was lots of

black dresses

hanging

in the closet

all the time

and you could

pull one out.

And as long

as it wasn't

the one that

you wore last

weekend, with

that

kind of same

group of people

at an event,

you were

perfectly fine.

And if it's

a plain enough

black cocktail

dress,

you're probably

fine to wear it

several weeks.

But fewer of

us have dressier

formal clothes

and even special

occasion

clothes because

people

just don't seem

to dress up

as more.

I actually enjoy

it, but I

don't like the

stress of not

knowing what I'm

going to wear.

So for each

event, pick out

what you're

going to wear.

Make sure

whatever

it is, is

not at the

dry cleaners.

Make sure you

have the right

hosiery.

And yes, I'm

showing my age.

I do still

wear hosiery in

winter.

Make sure you

have the shoes

that you need

to go with it.

Is there any

other pieces

that

you need with

this?

Knowing that

ahead

of time, making

a few notes

in your

calendar,

whether it's

paper or on your

phone, will take

a lot of

stress off.

Second, do you

have, do you

have to make

any kind of

reservations?

This goes back

to the

suggestion

of perhaps

hosting

someone for a

Christmas

luncheon.

Is there any

reservations?

I can make

anything I can

do to make

that day or

that event go

more smoothly.

Now, if you're

hosting, there's

going to be a

whole lot more

that goes into

this. So this is

mostly for

events

that you'll be

attending.

Third, ask

yourself,

do I need

a card or

a hostess gift?

And if you

have a number

of events and

need a number

of hostess

gifts,

it's usually

efficient to get

those things

together

and think about

what you want

to get.

Because one type

of hostess gift

may serve a

number of

functions

really well.

And lowering

stress

definitely is

easier

when we're doing

fewer things,

fewer

decisions, fewer

things,

excuse me, we

have to remember.

The fourth one

that we can

do is look

at any of

these events and

in addition to

a card or

a hostess gift,

are you

contributing

part of the

meal?

Very often I

will ask people

or people were

offered to bring

something if I'm

hosting dinner.

And so I

offer the same

when I'm

invited

and if the

hostess has said

yes, what am

I bringing?

Has she decided?

Have I decided?

When can I

make it?

What ingredients

do I need?

Let's plan for

that.

When is that

going to be

made right?

Or given the

time crunch, is

it something

that

I'm going to

pick up at

a bakery and

take along?

As long as

you decide ahead

of time, much

less stress the

evening up.

And then

finally,

and this is

a big one

because we tend

to rush from

place to place.

Book in time

in your calendar

for travel if

it's going to

take you 45

minutes to get

somewhere.

If you're going

someplace that

has

tricky parking,

if you need to

allow more time

for walking a

greater distance,

knowing

that ahead of

time and, and

building that

into your day,

building

that into when

you actually

have to leave.

So if you

have a 6

o'clock event,

putting

it on your

calendar for 6

o'clock may not

be nearly as

helpful as

putting that in

additionally 5pm

leaving

for the event

so that you

know not to

film in that

hour you're

going to, you're

going

to be driving

or however

you're

going to get

there.

And if you're

really good, the

getting ready

time

is scheduled on

your calendar as

well.

Because I know

we've all known

days where you

work up until

5 o'clock you

take off and

to make a

6 o'clock

dinner,

you can do it.

But all of

the other pieces

aren't in place

because you

haven't

planned to this

level of detail.

So my apologies

for those of

you who are

not planning

geeks

and for the

rest of you.

I hope these

tips are really

helpful and will

take some stress

out of what

is supposed to

be and what

can be just

a wonderful

holiday

time spent with

family and

friends.
