Hello and welcome to the Own Your Health Podcast,
I'm Cyndi Lynne and I can't wait to
help you step into your health power.
So we're still in September and it's still my new year.
And I invite you to celebrate the new year
with me as well this time of year.
So last week we talked a
little bit about learning something new.
Back to school, keeping your mind and your body
young and healthy by choosing to learn something new.
And I'd love to hear how that's going for you.
Today we're going to talk about the past a little bit.
I know in several episodes we've talked about setting
goals, setting routines, choosing things for yourself, asking yourself
what do you want your life to look like?
And hopefully you've spent some time
in the past journaling about these
things or trying on different schedules.
How's that going for you?
Now, if when I say this, you're like, oh, yeah, I
remember I sat down and wrote a bunch of stuff out.
Or if you're thinking to yourself, that was on my to do
list and I never got around to it, that's all right.
It's the new year and we're here to rectify that.
So if you haven't, here's your
reminder to choose for yourself.
You can choose health by making a lot
of other good choices for yourself in your
life, in your day, even minute to minute.
And that takes some planning.
And that's where choosing what your life is going
to look like means, choosing what your days
and your hours are going to look like.
Now, if you've done this, how is it working for you?
Have you found the plan that's the absolute best?
Have you had to tweak it along the way?
Have things been,
I always joke that occasionally something works
so well I stopped doing it.
But if you've ever done that where you're like, oh,
that was going really well, why did I stop?
Or I really liked that habit, why did I stop?
Here's your chance.
Look over those plans, see what
you've done that you've really liked.
That's worked really well for you.
Bring that forward and then look at what hasn't worked
as well or has fallen off because it hasn't worked
as well, and make a decision to either replace it
with something new, make some alterations to it, do it
in a different way, or perhaps it's something that you've
really wanted to do and really a different season will
work better for it.
Now, I'm a notorious procrastinator
and I will postpone things.
But occasionally, from a very objective perspective, there
are things that work out better in my
life in summer, different versions or different structures
of those same things that work out better
for my life in winter or fall.
And that's very true of
my morning routine, for example.
So in summer, I love to get up, get outside right away.
In winter, not so much.
I get up, come to my desk, turn on my
happy light because it's pitch black outside and too cold
to sit on the porch, sometimes too snowy.
So, and I'll get my outdoor activity and my
outside light contact with my eyes a little bit
later when the sun actually does come up.
And the same may be true for you.
Is there something that you really like
doing, only it really didn't fit anymore
in summer. That might be something you want to pull
forward into your fall plans, into your fall routine.
Look at your work schedule.
Is there flexibility?
Are there things that you want to change?
Look at your home schedule in terms
of when you do what activities.
Again, a lot of shifts that change with the weather.
Look at family related activities.
Do you get together for more family gatherings
in winter or more cookouts in summer?
How do you spend that family time?
And how do you want to spend that
family time going into this new season?
How about your relationships, your husband, your significant
other, your wife, whoever it may be?
How do you find the time that you want to spend
with them in a world filled with so many other things?
If we don't make something a
priority, we don't get to it.
And we can't make anything a
priority unless we think about it.
And if you're like me, things fall through the cracks,
not because I don't care about them,
but it's because I completely forget that
there was something I wanted to do.
And this is true for calendar events that I
wanted to attend, openings or art galleries where I've
simply forgotten that that was going on.
And it's also true for tiny little things, little
parts of my evening routine, for washing my face
and brushing my teeth and using a particular mouthwash.
And lo and behold, that mouthwash, for
example, will be put underneath the sink.
And I completely forget about it.
And something that was working really well and making my
mouth feel really good for weeks, I'll just stop doing
because it's simply out of sight and out of mind.
So part of the reminder for this episode and the reminder
for this time of year is get out those journals.
If you haven't been using it, dust it off.
Look at what you may have written before.
That's priorities for you.
Bring forward anything that's working, anything that you've wanted to
do that maybe will fit better in this season of
the year as well as the season of your life.
And then what else?
What else is it that you really want to bring
to your hours, to your days and to your years?
Because that's health.
Owning that time, owning the way you spend your
time, consciously and intentionally doing that brings a level
of well being and peace and control that we
don't have when we're unintentional and when we get
pulled in every which direction.
And we never seem to have time for ourselves.
So go ahead, pick out those things
that you really, really want to do.
As always, I am here to help you.
I love to hear what's working for you,
what's not working, and certainly if there's anything
you want help working on, reach out.
I'll put the links, as always, in the show notes.
You can book a time and talk with me,
not my staff, not somebody else - with me.
Absolutely free.
Give it a try.
I hope to talk to you soon.
And until next week, let's go out and own it.
