Hello.
Welcome to The Own Your Health podcast.
I'm Cyndi Lynne, and I can't wait to
help you step into your health power.
The title of this week's podcast
is "Just Because You Can".
How many of you heard that expression?
Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
And this can be used in a lot of context.
And in fact, I talk about it a lot with
clients when we're talking about setting boundaries, setting expectations for
what others will get from us, or what we're willing
to do or how we're willing to spend our time
and boundaries have very much to do with the space
between yourself and others out in the world.
But the just because you can doesn't mean you should,
in this case, applies to almost internal boundaries.
What you decide to commit to, what you decide to
reach for or set as a goal in relation to
what you want for your health and for your life.
So there can be small goals, small activities, how
you're going to work out, what you're going to
do for nutrition, all of those kinds of things.
When we talk about our physical health,
that's very much just because you can.
We have an expression in our house that
never eat anything bigger than your head.
And that came about when my son was really
small and we walked into this really kind of
famous bakery that's on the way to northern Minnesota.
It's been there for forever.
And they have these huge cinnamon rolls.
And that's the first thing he gravitated to was
this huge cinnamon roll, which I really could only
picture all over the backseat as we got back
in the car to continue our trip.
But that's when the rule was created.
Never eat anything bigger than your head.
Now, could he eat that cinnamon roll? Yes.
And since in the subsequent 20
years of his life has he?
Yes. But it's still probably a good rule.
And so follows.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
So where this has come up for me lately and
what has prompted me to want to spark your thinking
on this and raise the questions that make you stop
and think, because that's really what this is about.
I can give you information, but you can
get information in a lot of different places.
I want to give you enough information that you
can begin to think about next steps or begin
to think how this information impacts your life.
And what other questions can you ask?
I want to get you thinking and asking yourself
these questions so that you're making decisions for yourself.
And the 'just because you can' is frequently the
proposal or the expression that comes up when
we think about our work and our careers.
And so I want to share with you some of my
thinking, some of what goes on behind the scenes here at cyndilynne.com
and see if any of it rings true for you.
So my primary product, if you will,
well, my primary product is
me, really, in this business.
I'm Cyndi Lynne,
that's what it is.
But where I can help the most people in
the probably easiest way for them and for myself
is through The Heal Your Life Community.
It's The Heal Your Life Circle, and that
is the group program that I have, and
I haven't talked a lot about it lately.
It is self paced.
It is designed to help women coming out of diagnoses,
out of health issues, out of bad relationships, out of
just bad situations, reclaim and find themselves again.
And I've worked with women one on one doing this
for quite some time and really wanted to be able
to help more people at a very easy price point.
So it's a year long program, although many women stay
in a longer than that, month to month with a
topic, you join in, you watch the videos.
If you want to stay and work
completely by yourself, you can do that.
If you want to get more information,
you can join in on calls.
You can listen to calls afterwards.
It's resources that are there for you to use for
the support you need in different parts of your life.
And this is a passion of mine.
This is because I have no desire to be a diet expert.
I am a personal trainer.
I'm a nurse.
I don't have a desire to go out
and to do those specific things individually.
I think all of these components of us are
so integrated in owning our health that we can
look at and we can work on individual pieces,
but it's all part of the bigger whole.
And that if we don't work on the whole
picture, then there's always going to be pieces missing.
There's always things that are going
to be kind of lopsided.
So this is my passion project, and
this is where my heart is.
And if you haven't checked it out,
I welcome you to do so.
I'll put a link in the show notes so you can
just have a look at what the program is about.
And so this is my passion.
And I also speak, I speak to groups,
small groups, large groups about these topics and
about owning your health in different ways.
And I'm happy with it.
I love it.
I can't get enough of it.
However, recently I was approached to go back
to taking on one on one clients for
a very specific purpose for very specific training.
And I looked at that and I said, okay, I can do that.
I have the expertise.
I have the medical background.
I have all of these pieces, and I can
create a program and how long will it be?
And I immediately went into this, how to execute on this request,
and I was like, way down the path of it because that's
the doing, and I'm good at the doing, and I have the
tools and I have the pieces, and, yes, I can put this
together, and I can, I can, I can.
And I started hesitating before I sat down at my
desk to work on this, and I started dragging my
feet and I started finding other things to work on.
And, excuse me, finally, I just sat myself down and
I was like, what is your problem with this?
You know how to do this?
I didn't really want to.
I didn't want to create this new program.
I didn't want to spend my energy in that way.
So I sat down and I'm like,
okay, why is this something new?
Is this something that I'm not comfortable with?
No, I'm pretty comfortable with it.
I'm comfortable with talking to people.
I'm comfortable with all kinds of medical conditions.
What is it?
It's like, no, I don't want to do that.
And so my own mind put the brakes on my
body and stopped the physical creation of this program.
And I felt such relief when I discovered this.
And I thought, okay, yeah, I don't have to do this.
I love what I have now.
If something comes up that's an extension of that, or
if someone comes up and wants me to talk on
a new topic, I can certainly entertain that.
I can certainly think about it and say
yes, because I truly want to say yes.
Not just because, yeah, I have that skill set.
I can cover that.
And so I welcome you to investigate in
your life, whether it's in your career or
in taking on new personal projects.
Are you doing it because it's something you really, really
want to do, or are you doing it because there's
little voices that are saying, oh, well, you did that.
You went to school for that.
You know how to do that.
You did that for years.
You could make some more money doing that.
Yeah, maybe all of those things
are true, and you could.
But just because you can doesn't mean you should.
So take this forward in whatever form comes up
today, but I encourage you to kind of keep
that in the back of your mind.
And as someone or something presents itself, I want you to
ask yourself, am I doing this just because I can?
Or is it something that I really want to do?
Because bringing these two things together, bringing the
passion for what you love to do, along
with the skills that you have, makes you
a happier, healthier, more content person.
And I don't know about you, but I
certainly think the world needs more of that.
So, check out The Heal Your Life Circle for my passion.
Check into your day several times to figure out
if you're doing something just because you can, or
if you really want to do it.
And I will see you next week.
Until then, go out and own it.
