Welcome to The Own Your Health Podcast.
I'm Cyndi Lynne, and I can't wait
to help you into your health power.
I'm excited about the podcast today because it is
the first in a series of four that talk
about owning your health through your environment.
And when I say environment, it really
covers a wide spectrum of things.
Everything from inside of your body to your home,
to your office space, to just the whole world
that you inhabit and the way that you can
own your health within each of these different spaces.
For today's episode, I want to talk
about owning your health at home.
And in some respects, that may seem like
the easiest place to own your health.
Your home is a place that you potentially
think of as having most control over.
I mean, after all, your home is your castle. But
it also could be a place, and it is, for
me, that holds us back or keeps us kind of
trapped in old habits and old patterns.
And if there are old habits and
old patterns that are stepping that stay
within boundaries of your health, great.
If there's old habits that really stand in the way
of what's moving you forward to your health goals, then
those are something that we may want to take a
look at and you may want to change.
So I want to give you, short and sweet, just
three suggestions for how you can move into cleaning your
health in your home and creating a habit, creating an
environment that helps you move towards your health goals.
So, first of all, I highly recommend that
you create a space of your own.
Now, for most of us, it would be absolutely ideal to
have a room of your own, to have she shed or
a man cave or anyone of these kinds of things.
But for most of us, that's not the case.
I'm in South Carolina recording this right now.
I am in my office space, which happens to be half of
a room that is also the family room, and the tv room.
And so when it came time to record this,
I just had to ask if I could have
space to myself, and it really wasn't a problem.
So you may have your own space, you may have
your shared space, but I want you to create a
space within whatever you have that's absolutely your own.
And even if it's not your own space full time, if
you can have certain amounts of time, if you have the
ability to close the door and say, you know what?
I really don't want to be disturbed for the next
hour, or you're a busy mom, maybe I don't want
to be disturbed for the next 15 minutes.
But having a space that's yours is
the beginning of a recognition of acknowledging
yourself and acknowledging your needs.
Creating that space will actually give you the space to think
and the space to plan and the space to dream.
And that very often starts
with our physical environment.
And if you aren't accustomed to doing the
planning, the dreaming, the thinking of yourself, it
may not come real naturally to you.
And creating a space where you set aside that
energy, where you set aside that time and time,
we'll move on to actually the next tip.
But having that, recognizing that, starting to create some
boundaries around that will really be the first step
in owning your health, not only in your home,
but as you move into other environments.
So even if you don't have a room of
your own, even if you share a bedroom with
a spouse, creating that space and carving out some
space even within that, that can be yours.
And for example, that's part of recommendation number two, actually,
is that once you create space or take over a
corner of this space that you actually inhabit it.
So what does that mean?
It means that even if you have just some time alone
in your bedroom with the door closed, that you have things,
perhaps in a nightstand or on a shelf, that you have,
say, your journal or plants, if that's something that you enjoy,
candles, if you have a corner of a room with a
comfy chair, and that is your space, then it's very easy
for you to inhabit that.
It's attractive.
It's someplace that you want to go, someplace that
even if you have only a few moments to
yourself, move into that space, inhabit that space and
really start building the energy around that.
And if you're not real sure what I mean by that
energy, give this a try and I think you'll see.
So, for example, I have my space up.
My office happens to be in
a bonus room above the garage.
When I come up into the space, I'm ready to create,
I'm ready to work, I'm ready to speak with clients.
It's set up in a way that makes me want
to do these things because everything's here and it's comfortable,
and I have the things around me that I enjoy.
So I invite you to create that space of your
own, then inhabit that space by filling it, or at
least having some of your favorite things on hand.
And where would any of us be without a journal?
At least I'm hoping that you start to feel
that way when you listen to the podcast.
I know the women in The Heal Your Life Circle,
which is our membership group, that they've become very attached
almost as attached to me as me to my journal.
Inhabit that space, create it, inhabit it.
And then finally, the third step
is to schedule time there.
So untill this space that you create becomes kind of
a magnet, where it pulls you there when you have
some free moments, where it pulls there when you're having
some struggles or you need to think something through, or
you feel creative or you feel like dreaming, until you
learn to feel that pull to this space that you
create for your own health and your healing.
Schedule time so that you can begin to inhabit it,
so that you can begin to settle in and really
see what it feels like to have the space and
to not only enjoy it, but come to crave it.
In order to create healthy habits, we have to make room
for them and we have to create time for them.
And so the physical space that I'm talking
to you about today is a representation.
It's a physical representation of these
things that we to create.
And it will very soon become an emotional or
intellectual representation, meaning that even if you are away
from your space, you will be able to very
easily create that feeling, create that energy, and create
that attention to tail for yourself away from the
busy world, even just for moments at a time.
So this many things we talk about is a
practice, and I encourage you to do it.
So, just a couple of more suggestions.
You don't have a whole room.
If you have a corner, if you have a chair,
if you have a nook in front of a window,
you can easily have a basket with your favorite things
that sits in the floor of the closet.
You pick it up and you go sit in your chair.
You pick it up and you go sit
on the bench, and you have that space.
And even if the only space you can carve
out isn't really attractive right now, or it isn't
a very pretty space or a very comfortable space,
I encourage you to start making it so.
I've had clients who've created amazing tiny yoga studios
in a corner of the basement with some neat lighting,
some fabric hung up, really not spending a lot of
money and not doing construction, but still creating kind of
a sacred space for themselves where they can focus on
what they need for their health.
And when I talk about carving out time
and scheduling it, I'm not talking about hours.
Now, there may come a time where you love to
spend hours, or you'd love to spend a weekend away
in your space, but it really doesn't have to be
huge amounts of time in order to get the benefit
in order to begin this very first state, very first
step of owning your health within your environments.
Now, in the upcoming episode, we're going to talk
about owning your health on the road or when
you travel, which can be a little bit trickier.
But if you establish a very strong practice
in your home, it's much easier to transfer
feeling, to transfer that mood and that practice.
We'll also talk about owning your health in the moment.
And that's very much what the practice boils down to.
When you get into the space, when you inhabit it, when
you set aside the time, what exactly do we do there?
What exactly happens in that moment?
And then finally, we're going to dig down even
deeper, and I'm going to do an episode at
the end of this month for owning your health within
your own body, and that is your internal environment.
So we're going to start on the outside.
We're going to start with our home.
We're going to take it on the road.
We're going to move into time, and then
we're going to move into our body.
So if you have any questions at all about this
series, I'd be more than happy to answer them.
My contact information [email protected]
is down below.
If this is a fascinating subject to you,
know, within THe Heal Your Life Circle, we spend an
entire month working on just healing our environments.
So wherever we are, we have the ability to
stay true to ourself, to maintain our practice, and
to clean up some of the less than healthy
things that can intrude on our life.
So I welcome you to join me there.
Reach out with any questions you have.
And your assignment, should you choose, is to start finding
a space, even if it's a small one, in your
home that you can call your own, and you can
begin to own your health in that space.
So we will see you next week.
And until then, let's go out and own it.
